Any document created on Microsoft Word can now be attached directly to a Matter within InTouch using a new Microsoft Word add-in.

There are two versions of the add-in:

  • 2016 Microsoft Word add-in (for versions 2016 and beyond).
  • 2013 Microsoft Word add-in (for versions 2013 - 2015).

Please note: versions older than 2013 are not compatible with the add-in.

Installing the Microsoft Word add-in

Step 1: Create a Network Location

Please note: If you already have a network drive, you can create a folder in there called ‘InTouch’ and skip to Step 6.

  1. Open ‘File Explorer’ on your computer *(or ‘Windows Explorer 7’ if you are using Windows 7)
  2. Create a new folder called ‘InTouch’ on your ‘local disk’ (c:\drive) - you may use a different location if you wish to.   3. Right-click on the folder, select ‘Properties’, then the ‘Sharing’ tab, then ‘Advanced Sharing’, and then tick ‘Share this folder’. Click ‘OK’.   4. Make a note of the ‘Network Path’ and Close the Properties dialog box. How to attach a document created on Microsoft Word to a Matter within InTouch - network path
  5. Click onto your ‘Settings’ page within InTouch, scroll down and click onto the ‘Word’ button. Step 5 of this page has a hyperlink. Click on this to download an XML file. Save this file to the folder we just created called ‘InTouch’.

Step 2: Add to Microsoft Word

  1. Start Microsoft Word and create a blank document.
  2. Click ‘File’, then ‘Options’.

  5. Input the Network Path of the folder from Step 1.5 and choose ‘Add catalog’.

  7. Restart Word and open a blank document. Click ‘Insert’, ‘My Add-ins’, ‘Shared Folder’, then select InTouch from the list. Where will I find the new Microsoft Word add-in?

2016 Version

In the 2016 version, the add-in takes the form of an ‘Attach’ button within Microsoft Word. This appears in the top-right corner of the ‘Home’ panel, as shown below: How to attach a document created on Microsoft Word to a Matter within InTouch - 2016 location

2013 Version

In the 2013 version, click on the blue ‘App icon’, then click on the ‘InTouch icon’. Now you will be able to click ‘Attach’. In both versions your document will show under the ‘Docs & Emails’ tab within the relevant Matter on InTouch.
